Author Bio: Tonya is a senior at the University of Iowa double majoring in journalism and international studies. She frequently blogs at OnlineDatingSites.net and also maintains a persona blog at TonyaVrba.wordpress.com. Her drive and talent will soon propel her from college life to a career.
May 12, 2012 is when my world will be turned upside-down. That is the date of my graduation from the University of Iowa. During my time here I have many accomplishments including two majors (journalism and international studies) and a Certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies from my semester abroad.
Perhaps I should be excited. Compared to many others, I have significantly less college debt and a great amount of experience. Yet the inability for me to adequately predict my future upon graduation unnerves me. All my life I have been an academic. I love reading and learning. That’s part of what attracted me to journalism. For my whole life I can research and learn new things. There’s nothing better in my mind.
There are plenty of facts to back up my choice of major. The world of journalism is alive and well. The industry has always been dynamic and the dawn of internet, blogs and social media is certainly having its effect. As I get off on a challenging and dynamic environment, I am sure I chose the right major. Now it’s just a matter of working my way to the right career.
Businesses are catching on to the benefits of having a journalist on their team. While at a career fair last fall I walked up to [click to continue…]

YPBlogSpot debuts YP Next featuring American Dreaming Magazine’s very own, co-founder and freelance videographer Kris (@ADMagazine_kris) is making a name for himself in the filming industry. An American dreamer, doing what he loves (literally) from his point of view. Kris is the man behind the camera of all of the American Dreaming Magazine’s videos, whether he’s filming his Don’t Wake Us crew enjoying life or filming footage for the magazine’s latest issue(s). He just launched his personal website (a few months ago)http://krispfilms.com/where you can view all of the footage thus far then hire him to direct your next event on film. I posted one of my favorite videos directed by Kris, a music video featuring a group called BKS for their single titled, “Back and Forth” in the media box for your viewing pleasure. In addition, Kris has directed/filmed commercials, short films, documentaries, concerts, interviews and everything he can capture with his eye in the sky. Checkout the Vitamin water commercial below as well that is pretty cool…
I’m pretty sure Kris P. Films has next…Best Wishes, Blessings & Much Success to Kris P. Films…!!!
Like T-Pain or not this short, simple song speaks volumes. I bet when T-Pain started pursuing his dream of being an artist in the fashion in which he went about it (auto-tune), he probably had a handful of supporters and triple the doubters and naysayers. But he kept going and made his mark on the music industry and world. With that said, YPs handle your business and “Keep Going” when you encounter a setback. I recently lost my father and felt myself falling into a mini depression but I know I have to “Keep Going” on with my life even though a big part of me is missing. Whether it’s someone telling you “no or you can’t do that” or losing a job or loved one YPs, you and I must ”Keep Going” in order to fulfill any and all of our dreams and goals. “Keep Going” YPs and lookout for those unexpected BLESSINGS!!!
YPs, life is made up of many situations in life that force you to make decisions. The best part about life is that you always have a choice. Choices come with consequences and rewards, but the important thing to realize is there is always an option. You have to decide what you are and [...]
YPs, I have noticed that life is full of a bunch of talkers. People who know what they may want/need/desire, but only know how to talk about it. People who may even encounter what they ‘say’ they want, but DO nothing that is required to keep it. Think about all the people in life [...]
I’ve always enjoyed the saying above because I truly believe we all are products of our environment and the things we are exposed to EARLY greatly affect us as adults. With that said, I think about lessons passed down to me either via my parents or mentors. My parents did a great job of [...]
Competition is a funny thing. Some people thrive when competing while others do horribly under the pressure of trying to win. There probably are a number of reasons for that dynamic but I personally believe competition is always a good thing. I’ve always been a somewhat of a self-starter but I tend to think I work better [...]
Denzel Washington has always been one of my favorite actors. Recently, he gave a commencement speech at his son’s school, the University of Pennsylvania. While speaking to the graduates he talked about taking risks in life, and not fearing failure, but embracing and becoming better because of them, which I believe is an inspiring message [...]
Through my years of working with youth, I have noticed certain factors that give youth a better chance to succeed. This year in particular while working with youth in the inner city, I have learned more than ever that the youth of today, are very much a byproduct of the environment that surrounds them. When [...]
In this tough job market, it is really important to make a first great impression once you finally land that interview that you worked so hard to get. How are you going to stand apart from the other candidates that want that same position?? Recently, I went on a interview for an internship at a [...]
YPs, the summer is approaching. What will you be doing this summer??? I know many people have vacation plans and relaxation plans that they cannot wait to take part in. The weather will be a lot nicer than the snow and freezing temperatures that we have gotten used to in these past months, [...]
YPs, the recent events going on in Egypt have caused me to do some thinking. In some cases I have brought out some feelings inside of myself that I never knew were there and in other cases, I see myself PLAYING THE DEVIL’S ADVOCATE. A few things just come to mind regarding the [...]
Musiq | Juslisen | Future YPs this is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists Musiq SoulChild off of his 2nd studio album “Juslisen” titled “Future”. Musiq is simply relying the message to never give up on your dreams, goals, &/or aspirations in spite of your age, children &/or [...]
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Good day YP’s! Life is all about living, I mean truly [...]
