YP Current Event of the Day: “Toughest test comes after graduation: Getting a Job”

I came across a very interesting and informative article this morning about the job outlook for college grads, the affect of unemployment on the human psychic, and other alternatives besides landing a job. The article mentions that for every job opening there are 5 college graduate vying for the same position. It is a tough job market, and there seems to be more competition and uncertainty than ever before.

Through these times, my advice would be to keep pushing, applying for jobs, networking, and letting it be known to your circle of friends that you are actively searching for a job position. There may be many stumbling blocks along the way, but under no circumstance should you ever give up no matter how bad it gets. Keep knocking on the door, and sooner or later, one will open up. To all of the recent college graduates, enjoy your huge accomplishment, and best of luck on your job search! Read more »

Good Quote from Unknown Author

“You are the CEO of your life”!

- Unknown Author

Morning YP’s! Very simple quote, but very powerful in the same breathe. I like this quote because it says that YOU are the only person who is in charge of your life. Granted, there are factors that are out of our control, but at the same time we can control what we think, what we choose to do with our time, our attitude,  and the amount of effort we choose to put in. Whatever your goal may be, you can either choose to make it happen, or not. There are no excuses and no one to blame. You are the CEO of your life, let’s all take the necessary steps to make sure our life is a success!

Good Quote from Unknown Author

“As easy as it is given, it is easier to be taken away. Be thankful and count your blessings because God holds the keys to life’s doors.”

- Unknown

I was reading an article about a basketball player named Josh Powell, and he had a tattoo on his arm that reads this quote. This quote really spoke to me because it talks about being thankful for everything you have in your life, because it can be easily taken away at any moment. Being thankful can make everything in your life so much better, because your “attitude really determines your altitude”. We as individuals are not entitled to anything, but only deserve what we put in.

So YP’s think about what you are thankful in your life, and understand that life or anything in it for that matter is not promised. We all need to count our blessings and be thankful for all that we have. I believe if we have this attitude, then sooner or later we will be able to receive and achieve more!

YP Current Event of the Day: A job you hate, but it’s a job

Good morning YP’s. I know many Americans, and close friends personally who are struggling with this . You have a job, but you are not happy with the job due to your boss, pay scale, or because you do not see any room for growth. If you are struggling with anyone of these, then you are not alone. Anne Fisher points out that, “employee satisfaction is at its lowest level in 22 years” and that number continues to grow. Even though this may be true, my advice would be to do your best and maintain a positive attitude, while exploring other avenues and opportunities, because things are not going to get better by themselves; we have to make it happen. So YP’s, if you are not happy with you jobs, you are not alone, just don’t let it consume your whole life. Rather, be proactive and take steps to where you want to be! Enjoy the helpful article. The Blind Side Quote

“When something awful was happening my mother would tell me to close my eyes.  She was trying to keep me from seeing her do drugs or other bad things.  And when she was finish she would tell me to open my eyes the past is gone, the world is a good place and it’s all going to be okay.”

YPs I finally had an opportunity to checkout the film based on a true story about Michael Oher’s life in which  Sandra Bullock’s performance won her an Academy Award for, The Blind Side.  The movie definitely lived up to the hype and rave reviews.  The quote above is from the end of the movie when Sandra Bullock’s character asked Michael Oher how he made it out of his poverty stricken, drug infested, violent environment.  Michael said he closed his eyes to all the bad things that were going on.  YPs, Michael knew the bad things were going on but he chose to close his eyes to the negativity and see the good things, possibilities ahead of him.  This is what we have to do YPs, negativity is always going to be around.  Bad things are always going to be taking place but it’s up to us to ignore the negativity and embrace the positive, good things that life has to offer now and in the future.  Michael Oher’s story is truly amazing and extraordinary because he made it to ‘Successville’ in spite of being dealt a raw deal.  Be POSITIVE, be DETERMINED, be GREAT, & be SUCCESSFUL YPs!!!

Appreciation…

I recently took some of my family members on a simple trip, dinner, and I just felt a great deal of satisfaction and joy.  I believe this stemmed from me seeing their appreciation for every moment in the day. I was also able to take them somewhere different besides their house, and workplace, if only it was for the day. This in turn, made me see clearly how appreciative I should be of everything I have in my own life, and how blessed I truly am. Read more »

Good Poem: “Don’t Quit”

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fail Read more »

Good Quote From J. Cole

J. Cole: Just To Get By (Freestyle)

“Now where’s the ladder|Cause either you gone whine or you climb| I choose the latter (ladder).”

Enough with the whining and complaining YPs!  You’re wasting energy and quite frankly nobody wants to hear about your misfortune over and over and over again.  We all have to deal with some form of misfortune, obstacles and/or setbacks so use your energy overcoming them.  It’s okay to vent about something that has happened to you but after you vent about it please let it go.  If you’re at rock bottom I suggest you choose the ladder and start climbing your way to a place that makes you happy.  I’m going to choose the ladder and climb my way to ‘Successville’ regardless of how many times I fall or get knocked down.  Roll with the punches life throws at you and keep it moving YPs! Special thanks to a special friend to YPBlogSpot, Lolade!

Good Quote From Emily Dickinson

“Dwell in possibility.”

YPs we always seem to dwell on things from our pasts that are already done and over with but for some reason we dwell on those decisions, events, or whatever that impedes our progression and/or growth.  The notion of dwelling in possibility/possibilities sounds pretty appealing if you ask me.  To dwell in possibility means dwelling in something that you can actually do something about whether you pursue one possibility or decide to pursue another possibility. Possibility/Possibilities can change in contrast to dwelling in the past which will not and can not change the past.  BIG DIFFERENCE!!!  Possibilities are endless, it’s just up to you to decide what possibility is yours for the taking.  Dwelling in possibility promotes productivity and activity to making possibilities realities.  YPDSing, YPRichB, YPJimH and I are currently dwelling in the possibilities of YPBlogSpot.  The possibility of expansion and we wonder how big YPBlogSpot actually become if we play our cards right.  We have been doing our research and due diligence to ensure that YPBlogSpot’s possibilities become reality.  In conclusion, dwell in possibilities YPs, exhaust all your resources to convert your possibilities into your realities and YPBlogSpot’s very own will meet you in ‘Successville’.

Good Quote from Unknown Author

“The best angle from which to approach any problem is the try-angle.”

~Author Unknown

Good morning YP’s! We as humans can run across a myriad of problems  throughout our lives, from a flat tire, to losing a loved one to a natural disaster.  What I get from this quote, is that when things do get tough, all we can do is “try”, because when in doubt, just take next step forward. Continuing to “try” and being positive, will then lead you to your light at the end of the tunnel.

I would like to take it a step further regarding “trying” as well. There are two levels of “trying”. A person could either go through the motions, or a person can put 100 percent effort, into want they want to accomplish; there is definitely a major difference. What I try to tell myself, is to give 100 effort in whatever I do I try to accomplish, and then have faith. So with that said, there are problems that are beyond our control, we must continue to “try”, and give our best effort, especially during those tough times. Make it a great one YP’s!

Not What If but What Is…

I was watching Lincoln Heights on TVOne last night which is by the way one of my new favorite shows and be quiet I know I’m tardy for the party but I really dig the show.  Last night’s episode had a scene with the youngest daughter of the main family and the babysitter who happened to be a Iraq War veteran and he told the young lady, “It’s not what if but what is…” and that line really stuck with me and inspired this blog.

YPs I know we all have thought about “what if” this would have happened or “what if” that would have Read more »

3 Ways to Improve Your Outlook on Life

Life is filled with up’s and downs, that you can sort of lose yourself in the process at times. A person may feel like giving up, and giving in, but when you really think about it, we have so much to be grateful for. As long as you are on this earth, you are able to change, do better, and become better. So embrace every new day, because life is short, and we only get one chance at it.

I very much agree with this article because, it talks about embracing what you do have instead of what you don’t have. If we look at life that way, we will be that much better off. It also talks about taking care of yourself, because when you look good you feel good. I just got a fresh cut, and put on a brand new sweater, with the button up underneath, so I am kinda feeling myself this morning. :) We all should feel the same way. Enjoy the article about how to improve your outlook on life, because we all need positive affirmations from time to time. Enjoy your day YP’s! Read more »

Good Quote from Buddha

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment”

Life can turn upside down in a blink of an eye, from a close person passing away, or from other unfortunate events. I’ve learned the hard way that you cannot go back and change certain events, or take the bad things you said to someone who is no longer here. You have to let it all go, for you to be the person you want to be in the present. I’ve seen people who hold grudges for a long time, or say things like, “if I would have done this”, “if I had this it would be different”. But in reality, all you are doing is hurting, and hindering yourself.

We’ve gone through situations, where we could have done things differently, that’s what makes up human. But at the same, I have learned that you can’t hold on, but you must persevere, learn, do, and be better, because of it. All we can do is concentrate on the present moment and events, don’t get to ahead of ourselves, do the best we can in the present, and have faith that everything will take care of itself in the long run. Have a good one YP’s!

Good Poem by Langston Hughes

Life Is Fine

by Langston Hughes

I went down to the river,
I set down on the bank.
I tried to think but couldn’t,
So I jumped in and sank.I came up once and hollered!
I came up twice and cried!
If that water hadn’t a-been so cold
I might’ve sunk and died.

But it was Cold in that water! It was cold!

I took the elevator
Sixteen floors above the ground.
I thought about my baby

And thought I would jump down. Read more »
