Poetry

This is a great poem by Maya Angelou. Whatever you are going through in life, you have to have the fight of a champion. We all go through good and bad times, but like this poem says, we have to rise. It is not about falling, because we will more than once our lives. It is about picking yourself up, and keep plugging away. Perseverance is key!

Still I Rise

by Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise. [click to continue…]

Beautifully Brilliant

Beautifully Brilliant

We are beautiful and brilliant

Not like mainstream or coming a dime a dozen

Beautiful like the first day of fall, soft shades of russets and brown

Fluttering through the cool breeze before gently landing on the ground

Brilliant like diamonds – sparkling, sharp; multifaceted

Glimmer knowing, reaching no boundaries

And though fall comes with cold, crisp and sometimes bitter air

There are no seasons that we cannot bear

Repression by YPChan

Repression

Being with you was frighteningly safe
Knowing one better than myself, provided a forever familiar face
You filled my space
Whether it was with joy or torment,
There was always someone there that was meant
For me
I thought you’d be happy and willing to work
But your sudden change of heart causes mine to jerk.
A struggle of emotions rages a tumultuous storm in my soul
Heat of my love against the stones of your cold.
With you I always imaged growing old.
Now the only thing that ages
Are the memories on pages

Traces of Sadness

What happens when love is not enough anymore to make us stay?
When talking hasn’t worked and no one knows what else to say?
Frustration has settled on emotions and left a film love’s unable to remove.
I’ve paced back and forth trying to figure things out, but still I lose.
Never felt so helpless and lost in a world where I thought I belonged.
Hope fades as reality swoons in to crush the last remnants of a broken heart.
Tears replace where there was once laughter.
Fear grips the part of me that was once content –
In the fact that I had you and you me
Now there is no we.

April 14, 2010

Mother To Son by Langston Hughes Well, son, I’ll tell you: Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair. It’s had tacks in it, And splinters, And boards torn up, And places with no carpet on the floor – Bare. But all the time I’se been a-climbin’ on, And reachin’ landin’s, And turnin’ corners, [...]

Good Poem: “Don’t Quit”

April 13, 2010

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.   Life [...]

Phillis Wheatley: Great African Americans

February 3, 2010

Imagination! Who can sing thy force? Or who describe the swiftness of thy course? Soaring through air to find the bright abode, Th’ empyreal palace of the thund’ring God, We on thy pinions can surpass the wind, And leave the rolling universe behind: From star to star the mental optics rove, Measure the skies, and [...]
