Today Talib Kweli returns with a brand new album for your listening pleasures “Gutter Rainbows.”  Kweli has been one of my favorite artists since I first heard his music back in the late 90s and this album doesn’t disappoint.  The album is ONLY available digitally in the US so don’t run out to Best Buy to get it.  In any event make sure you support good music.  Check out the first single “Cold Rain” and the iTunes album link is below as well.

Well after all of the controversy settles Kanye West’s true test comes with the arrival of his new album “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”. As always Kanye delivers on this one. At this point ‘Ye is competing with only himself. In terms of pushing rap music forward I really believe Kanye is single handedly doing so. No other mainstream rapper is pushing the envelope and setting trends like ‘Ye. Although some of his musical “genius” can be overkill (9 minute songs etc) I definitely appreciate the effort and outcome.

After splitting with Lil Wayne’s Young Money camp a few years ago, Curren$y has built quite a brand since branching out on his own. Currently running with Dame Dash and producer Ski Beatz, Curren$y has definitely been one of the most consistent and best rappers of the past few years. After dropping a gang of mixtapes, a collab mixtape/album with Wiz Khalifa, and a few albums, Curren$y is back with Pilot Talk II. Curren$y definitely has carved out his own musical lane with Ski Beatz and their brand of music is top notch. If you’re not familiar, get familiar ASAP.

Judgement day has finally come for the “hottest” female rapper in quite a long time. I personally believe the success of this album will hold the fate for a lot up and coming female rappers. If Nicki is unsuccessful with this album, after all the attention she’s garnered, I doubt we’ll have another successful female rapper for a long time. Nicki has definitely proved her talent rapping with greats like Jay-Z and Kanye, but now it’s time to see what she can do on her own. Although the album is a little more pop sounding than I expected, it’s actually not a terrible album. Not something that’s gonna be on repeat in my car but not a bad start. Either way, it’s time for the public to decide on Nicki’s musical fate.

Trey Songz returns with a new album today pretty much a year removed from his best selling album “Ready”. Last year was a breakout year for Trey and it’s great to see him return and hopefully cement his status as the go to guy in R&B. Thanks to YPDSing, we’ve been listening to Trey way before he “made” it and became as popular as he is today. So take a listen to some songs off the new album below and make sure to cop the album.

Today marks the return of Reflection Eternal with their second album “Revolutions Per Minute”. While [...]

Little Brother returns with “LeftBack” which is said to be their last album as a group. As a huge fan of Little Brother I’m sad to see the collective of Phonte & Rapper Big Pooh call it quits. I was introduced to them back in 2003 via message boards and blogs on the internet. Over [...]

New Album Spotlight: Raheem Devaughn- The Love & War Masterpeace

March 2, 2010

YPRichB: Raheem Devaughn has easily been one of my favorite R&B singers of the past few years. His previous 2 albums “Love Experience” & “Love Behind the Melody” were great albums and his newest album “The Love & War Masterpeace” follows suit. Although he’s always grouped into that whole neo-soul group (which can be a [...]
