YPRichB’s Song of the Moment: Jay Electronica “Exhibit C”

l_68c0d193299fdff82bacef01a3eb71f9

I’d like to introduce the song that has been on constant repeat on my ipod for the past month or so. I’m not sure if a lot of you are familiar with who Jay Electronica is but I must say this is the BEST hip-hop song out right now. I may be partial because of the amazing beat Just Blaze put together for Jay but this really brings me back to what I love about rap music. This song is a straight punch to the face, a crazy beat followed with great lyrics. No hook, no dance, just music. Jay Electronica has a huge internet following and this song was recently made available for download on iTunes. The song was a top 10 download when it was released.

I ran across something interesting posted by DJ Enuff from Hot 97 radio station in New York. He says he loves the record but is not playing it on the radio. He posted a rhetorical question about why he’s not playing the record that definitely points to the problem in radio. The same songs are played repeatedly and new “different” songs aren’t given a true chance. This is why I don’t even bother with the radio. Luckily the internet has exposed me to artists that I would not have found if I relied on the radio. Make sure you check out the song above, and check out DJ Enuff’s post below.

Sports Weekend: Philly vs New York

Philadelphia Skyline.

NYC Skyline.

There are a quite a few things that I like to do and watching just about any and every sport is one of them. Being born in Philadelphia and raised in South Jersey I am well aware of the Philly andNew York rivalry which is gonna be at a all time high this weekend.  Philly fans are notorious for being the most passionate sports fans you can find anywhere and this can be a great thing sometimes and a bad things others.  Philly fans are going to be in rare form regardless of the outcomes this weekend with their respective teams so New York fans beware and you may want to be afraid! The Philly versus New York sports schedule is as follows.  Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees will face off in game 3 of the 2009 World Series in Philly to see who will take the lead in the series.

Philadelphia Phillies

New York Yankees

That same night the Philadelphia 76ers will play the New York Knicksin Madison Square Garden which a lot of people probably won’t pay much attention to but it’s still a NY versus Philly match up.

Philadelphia 76ers

NY Knicks

Then, Sunday the New York “Football” Giants will play the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly on Broad Street right across from the Citizens Bank Park and this is an important game for both teams because the winner of this game will be in first place in the NFC East.

Philadelphia Eagles

Later on that night, the Fightin’ Phillies and the Yanks will play game 4 of the World Series.  Philly is going to be bananas!  I can only see one New York team winning this weekend and that will be the New York Giants which is my team but I believe the Sixers will beat up on the Knicks on Saturday and my Phillies will take control of the World Series and win both games 3 and 4 and hopefully end andwin their 2nd title in as many years in game 5.  Times like this make me so homesick but I will enjoy watching to see what happens this weekend and after this weekend Philly and New York fans will hate each other even more than they already do!  I’ve been talking all types of trash to Yankees fans via email, twitter, and Facebook and will continue to do so.  Go 76ers!  Go Giants! Go Phillies!  Who are you rooting for?

BREAKING NEWS: Beanie Sigel has just released a Jay-Z diss record taking this Philly vs NY weekend to a whole other level.  Wow!  I can’t choose because I love and respect both artists but I think Beans is venting and I don’t think this is going to turn into a big battle of words or at least I hope not.  Jay-Z needs to touch base with Beans and rectify the situation because they were great together and had hip-hop on smash.  It’s the Roc!  But take a listen for yourself.

Kid Cudi- Make Her Say (Music Video)

Video for Kid Cudi’s “Make Her Say” featuring Kanye West & Common. The video is simple but I like the visuals in the video. Even though the split screen look has been done over & over again, I think this joint is kind of fresh. Check it out.

Fabolous ft. Drake- Throw It In The Bag Remix

Fabolous Feat. Drake: Throw It In The Bag (Remix)

It’s Friday and let’s get ready for the weekend with the remix of “Throw It In The Bag”. For all The-Dream fans this song samples “Fancy” off of The-Dream’s album “Love vs. Money”.

“Everything I buy fly/ It’s like i’m booking flights/ If I want it I’ma get it/ That should not be taken light/ And that’s on everything, I got a crazy lady/ So money ain’t a thing, Jay-Z, JD”

Common- Be (Semi-Throwback of the day)

I always liked the build up of the beat to the actual verse of the song. The song is short and to the point, with Common talking about real life and wanting to just “be”. YPs embrace all around you, work hard, and enjoy life today. Be productive, be successful, and be happy.

“Never looking back, or too far in front of me, the present is a gift, and I just wanna be”

Blu & Exile: First Things First

Blu & Exile: First Things First “Below the Heavens”

“so, fronting like I got chips is out the question and acting like my benz is in the shop is outdated and I ain’t into playing games plus I already hate them fake ballers that be always dropping names”

Blu

Introducing hip-hop artist Blu for those that may not be familiar with him.  Blu is a west coast rapper from Cali and this song is off of his debut album Below The Heavens which was produced entirely by Exile and released in 2007.  First Things First  is a song about Blu meeting a young lady in the club and how he’s going to go about getting to know the young lady.  Blu is conflicted between lying about who he is/knows, what he has, and what he does to make himself look more appealing or being honest about who he is/knows, what he has, and what he does which may not be as appealing but it’s the truth.  Ladies and gents, do yourselves a favor and be honest because at the end of the day honesty will save you all a lot of embarrassment from being labeled as a fraud.
