“Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.”
Recently I got a chance to lead a meeting, and to be honest, it did not turn out the way I expected it to. I did my best, and I continued on even though it was an uncomfortable situation for me. After the meeting was over, I was hard on myself because the meeting didn’t go as I hoped. But when I really thought about it, I came to the conclusion that this was a learning experience, and the next time, I will be better prepared if the situation occurred again. The most important aspect I believe is not the mistake itself, it is letting that mistake impede me from leading a meeting again. I am totally confident if given another opportunity I will be that much better. Success is all about falling and getting up YP’s, let’s not our failures deter us from reaching our Successville! We all live and learn!

“You can never go somewhere you’ve never been without doing something you’ve never done”
YP’s, if we want to change our lives for the better, we can not expect to do the same things and expect different results. We have to be able to get out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves. Even though it can be uncomfortable, chances must be taken in order for us to accomplish our goals, whatever it may be. We have to be the painters in our lives if we want to create a masterpiece!

I recently had a sit down with one of my favorite professors from my graduate program, Dr. Richard Cooper. Dr. Cooper graduated from Howard University with a Master in Social Work, and then attended Temple University and received his Ph.D. in Inter-Disciplinary Urban Education. I always enjoyed his class, and the enthusiasm he displayed each every time we met. He is a person that I look up to, so I wanted to get his opinions and gain some insight on how I could carve out my niche and explore different avenues once I graduate. Below are some important points that Dr. Cooper discussed, which I thought my fellow YP’s would find helpful as I did. Appreciate you Dr. Coop, and your knowledge!
