YPs I have a guest blogger that has sent me a few poems to share with you ladies and gents by the name of Radiant Theory but to us she will be known as YPTheory.  The first poem this young lady has shared with YPBlogSpot is regarding what can happen when trying to do too much while you’re driving.  I know by now everyone is probably familiar with Oprah Winfrey’s “No Phone Zone” pledge in which she along with many others are promoting limited cell phone use while people are driving and no text messaging/emailing/tweeting and so forth.  YPs I haven’t taken the pledge but I have become more aware of my cell phone use while I’m driving and am working on becoming more responsible each day.  But checkout YPTheory’s poem titled “Crash” that shares a real life scenario of texting while driving and the possible end result that many have incurred.  Share your thoughts and comments YPs.

CRASH

She played by all the rules…
and maybe that was half her problem…
she didn’t live enough…
so you’d have to figured that god must have decided she didn’t deserve life…
so just like that he took it..
right from under her nose…
you would think she’da saw it coming…
but no…

AND CRASH…
her car hit his…
her head hit the steering wheel…
going 75 on the highway is regular practice till something gets in your way…
AND CRASH…
her car bent into positions yoga instructors would be confused by
and contortionist would be jealous of.
And CRASH
just like that her mother left daughter less and her daughter left motherless…
worlds divide and lives change at the blink of an eye…
The grocery bags slams into the back of her seat….
lunch meat.. muffins…and grapes fall to the ground
as her last thoughts go to the fruit of her loom…
the apple doesn’t fall to far from the tree
and the daughter she left behind is just like her but a third of her age…
at the tender age of 10 her little girls life will have to start again
and CRASH the window cracks…
glass shatters….
And CRASH
the air bag deploys all too late to save
but just soon enough to damage..
it caves in her chest
and steals the air from her lungs like the sound of her little girls voice…
And CRASH
the car flips over itself
somersaulting through the air
she remembers the summer she taught her baby girl to do back flips…
and all the summers she would miss from this point on…
And CRASH
The car landed
fifty four feet from where it started
Down the side of the hill off the highway
As she waits to hear sirens
She starts to slip
Knowing that she shouldn’t she fights it
She starts to repeat facts in a desperate attempt to hold on
“I’m Jessica white…I’m 33…I have a daughter her name is lily”
“I’m Jessica white …..I’m 33…..I have a daughter named Lilly”
“I’m Jessica wh-….her thoughts become choppy
But she won’t stop fighting
I’m thi-…her heart rate slows to where she almost can’t feel it
And she’s getting cold
Her memory starts to fade and events seem to be a little less clear
My name….She can hear sirens in the distance
But She can’t feel her legs
“Her name is Lilly”
Her name is Lilly and her laugh could make your heart blossom on the coldest day in winter
“Her name is Lilly”
“Her name is Lilly and she named her after the most beautiful flower that she had ever seen
Her name is- her heart wants to keep fighting
But her body doesn’t agree
Later doctors will say there was too much swelling around her brain
It couldn’t send the right signals to the rest of her body
Every thing goes black
And CRASH her cell phone falls to her feet with an un sent message on the screen
TO: Lilly
On the belt way, I’ll be home soon
Love mo-…
