YP Book Recommendation

When I was on my vacation, I wanted something entertaining to read so I choose Steve Harvey’s “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.” When Steve Harvey first came out with this book, all males thought that he was snitching and giving out all the secrets of males. But when I finished this book, I realized it was more than just giving females tips, but empowering females to make their present or future relationship stronger. Some of the details that he mentions in this book are:

  • Women should set standards for their self and stick to them. For example having a “90 day rule”. If the man really likes you he will wait, if not, he was not the one anyway.
  • He also talks about the three things men want from women: support, loyalty and “the cookie” (sex): “We’ll take a lot of things from a woman. But we have to have these three things. You take away any one of them, you lose a man’s affection.”
  • And three ways men show love to women: profess, provide and protect. Men want to be able to take care of their women and be a provider. If you are not letting a man do this, you are making a grave mistake.

To summarize, I recommend this book to mature adults who are looking for a serious relationship. If you are still out there playing the field, you might want to read this book for entertainment purposes only. I do recommend this book because it has real good points that make you think about your own relationship, but you must realize that these are Mr. Harvey opinions. Every relationship is different, and you have to do what best for the two of you, but this book can definitely help!

This book was very powerful in that it helps you realize how precious life really is. It is a real life story about a relationship between a college professor and one of his students. The professor falls ill, and by chance the student reconnects with his mentor. The student then visits his mentor’s house every Tuesday without fail, learning about life’s lessons.

This book is highly recommended. It gave me a greater appreciation for my life, and made me think about how I would like to leave my imprint in this world. The book talks about letting go of grudges, and forgiving, because you never know what can happen. It also talks about giving and reaching out to others. “But giving to other people is what makes me feel alive. Not my car or my house. Not what I look like in the mirror. When I give my time, when I can make someone smile after they were feeling sad, it’s as close to healthy as I ever feel” (pg. 128). Morrie goes along to pass many other lessons to his pupil.

Read this book with an open mind and get refreshing outlook in life!
