Colin Munroe: “I Want Those Flashing Lights” (Video)

I ran across this video courtesy of American Dreaming Magazines myspace page and just thought “Wow” I must share this with YPBlogSpot.  Colin Munroe is Canadian artist, songwriter, and musician as well as another artist YPRichB aka “The Music Man of YPBlogSpot” made familiar to YPs.  He has collaborated with two of YPs favorite up and coming Hip-Hop artists Drake and Wale on a couple of tracks.  In other words, get familiar with Colin Munroe and spell his name right because he’s soon to be a household name in music period. Enjoy!

Comedy Clip: Denzel Washington Impersonation

YPRichB: I saw this clip on Bad Boys of Comedy a few years ago and its still funny to this day. Check out comedian Reggie Reg talk about his experience at Denzel Washington’s restaurant. Apparently Morgan Freeman, Chris Rock, and Bernie Mac were at the restaurant that night. Enjoy.

Your Health, It’s Not Just About You…

Good day YP’s! I want to talk to you today about a topic that I believe is as important as any, which is your health. Health should be your number one priority, because it can greatly affect how you live your life. Also, your health doesn’t just affect you, it affects everyone around you. Granted, there are unexpected events that are out of your control, but a person can definitely take the proper precautions to take care of themselves. I didn’t realize how important health was, until I was sidelined for a month and a half due to an ankle injury. My injury, then put a strain on the rest of my family, because they had to take time off to care for me. Read more »

YPRichB’s Songs of the Moment- Citizen Cope & J. Cole

I got put on to Citizen Cope by one of my old co-workers who recommended I check out his album “Citizen Cope”. The majority of the music I listen to is Rap and R&B but I do have a few “alternative” groups/musicians that I listen to often so I was open to giving it a try. Needless to say I was very impressed with that album and happy to hear Citizen Cope has another one dropping next week titled “The Rainwater LP”. Check out the first single “Healing Hands”.

“Healing Hands”

If you’ve checked out the Lifestyle Music section of the site then you know we’re huge fans of J. Cole.  I definitely feel like he has a chance to really make his mark in the industry with his upcoming album due out this year.  There has been a lot of attention given to Drake (and rightfully so) but I think J. Cole is going to give Drizzy a run for his money.  Check out the Knock on Wood freestyle where Cole goes in over Common’s “Go”.

YPSueJ: Christian Louboutin Lady Claude 120 Pumps

Christian Louboutin

Lady Claude 120 Pumps

Let me just say this, “$3,175! Seriously?!” I would be the first to say, “Its Quality, not Quantity.” But I’ll be damned. Do you know what I could do with $3,175!? Let me tell you what I could do with $3,175 in one sentence, “BUY A CAR!” When I saw this price I had to figure out why they were so much. In the description it says they’re “pale gold leather peep-toe pumps encrusted with iridescent Swarovski crystals.” Pale Gold… THAT BETTER BE REAL GOLD. Swarovski crystals… THEY BETTER BE TOP OF THE LINE CRYSTALS AND I BETTER BE ABLE TO PUT INSURANCE ON THEM! I love shoes and they are a very big part of my life, but $3,175 for one pair of shoes is not working out for me. If you want to purchase these for yourself, be my guess. My life is a recession!

The CIAA With Your Host: DJ Skillz

This weekend the 65th Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament will take place in Charlotte, NC.  The CIAA Tournament is the one of the most successful and celebrated college basketball tournaments in the United States featuring 12 historically black colleges and universities from the oldest American Historically Black College Conference.  I have never personally attended the CIAA Tournament but have heard that this is one of the best weekends to party and network annually and in the future hopefully YPBlogSpot’s very own will be able to attend the CIAA Tournament not only to party but to take advantage of great marketing and networking opportunities.  DJ Skillz aka “The Next Great American DJ” will be hosting a number of parties this weekend at the CIAA Tournament and with him being a North Carolina native and one of the best DJs in the land then YPs I suggest you party with the best.  The flyer above is full of the events and parties DJ Skillz will be hosting this weekend so be safe, network and have a ball.  And tell Skillz YPBlogSpot sent you.

If I Knew Better, I’d Do Better

I’ve always enjoyed the saying above because I truly believe we all are products of our environment and the things we are exposed to EARLY greatly affect us as adults. With that said, I think about lessons passed down to me either via my parents or mentors. My parents did a great job of leading by example but never really sat me or my siblings down and spoke to a specific item consistently. In no way is this a knock on them because I’d like to think I’ve learned a lot by watching and emulating but, I think I could have learned more if shown things directly.  Of course hindsight is 20/20 and I’m not sure if at age 15 I really wanted to hear about investing money but who knows?  However, I do feel like those early dialogues help avoid falling into traps as an adult.

American Dreaming Magazine Interview with the Editor-in-Chief Brandon Davis

I had an opportunity to have a conversation with the founder of The R.I.C.K. Foundation and editor-in-chief of American Dreaming Magazine Brandon Davis to discuss his new magazine that is soon to be a household name nationwide.  During the interview, Brandon revealed the beginnings of ADMag, the inspiration and purpose of ADMag, and the goals of ADMag along with future plans of the American Dreaming Magazine and The R.I.C.K. Foundation.

The R.I.C.K. Foundation & American Dreaming Magazine: The Beginning of an era.

Relationships: What is Dating REALLY???

YPs, in yet another installment of my ‘Relationships’ series, I want to talk about what happens in that GREY area, between meeting someone and possibly becoming a couple.  In talking with a few close friends of mine, I have come to the conclusion that ‘Dating’ is a lost art.  Either it doesn’t exist when meeting someone, or it is terribly misunderstood and misused.

I hear people, all the time, say that they are just dating.  What does that really mean?  Does it mean that they are seeing multiple people without an official title?  Does it mean that they are seeing one person without an official title.  Could it even mean that they are having casual sex with whomever they want because they are not in an exclusive relationship.  There is this crazy thin line or grey area that is not always understood between the parties involved.  This can lead to a number of complications or issues between a prospective couple.  I think that it should always be made clear what it is, exactly, that is going on.  Leaving room for that GREY area, is a recipe for disaster.

K. Sparks- A Day in the Life Album

YPRichB: As someone who truly loves music from all aspects (musical production to finished songs) I love gaining insight into artists inspiration and feelings on their projects. I’ve always been drawn to documentary style films because they are usually so insightful. I’ve never heard of K. Sparks before today but after watching this EPK (Electronic Press Kit) I’m definitely interested in checking out his music. Watch the EPK above and check out more info on the album below. It definitely seems like a worthwhile listen.  Album available March 2, 2010.

Good Quote from Buddha

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment”

Life can turn upside down in a blink of an eye, from a close person passing away, or from other unfortunate events. I’ve learned the hard way that you cannot go back and change certain events, or take the bad things you said to someone who is no longer here. You have to let it all go, for you to be the person you want to be in the present. I’ve seen people who hold grudges for a long time, or say things like, “if I would have done this”, “if I had this it would be different”. But in reality, all you are doing is hurting, and hindering yourself.

We’ve gone through situations, where we could have done things differently, that’s what makes up human. But at the same, I have learned that you can’t hold on, but you must persevere, learn, do, and be better, because of it. All we can do is concentrate on the present moment and events, don’t get to ahead of ourselves, do the best we can in the present, and have faith that everything will take care of itself in the long run. Have a good one YP’s!
